The approach to St-Lô: Turn #5 (of 5)

Nuestra Campaña de St-Lô consiste en dos campañas 'Axis of Attack' simultáneas:

• La primera: 'A través del Valle del Aure', tendrá como objetivo asegurar el pueblo de Couvains, a 5 millas al noreste de St-Lô de cara a la próxima ofensiva sobre la ciudad.

• La segunda: 'El avance hacia el bosque de Cerisy', buscará desalojar a las unidades alemanas del estratégico terreno elevado del bosque de Cerisy y asegurar así la cabeza de playa aliada frente a posibles contraataques.

Our current St-Lô campaign consists in two simultaneous 'Axis of Attack' Campaigns:

• The first one: 'Across the Aure Valley', will aim to seize the village of Couvains, 5 miles northeast of St-Lô for the forthcoming offensive on the city.

• The second one: 'The advance to Cerisy Forest', will see the G.I.s trying to oust the German units from the strategic high ground at Cerisy Forest in order to secure the Allied bridgehead.

Deployment

Carlos decidió empezar con sus 21 carros encima de la mesa (un buen movimiento, en mi opinión), forzándome a desplegar el Grenadier KG sobre mi Objetivo para evitar que lo capturase en fuerza en los primeros turnos. Tras ver su despliegue concentré mis 5 Panther en un extremo frente a sus SU-100 para eliminarlos rápidamente con ayuda de una plantilla de humo, evitando así su fuego de respuesta. Lanzó su Immediate Ambush en el pueblo con los T-34 amenazando peligrosamente a mi Pelotón de Panzer IV Trained.

Despliegue alemán: Panthers, Pz IV y el Grenadier KG sobre el Objetivo
German deployment: Panthers, Pz IV and Grenadier KG on the Objective

Carlos decided to start with all his 21 tanks on the table (best move, IMHO), forcing me to deploy the Grenadier KG guarding my Objective to fend off Soviet pushes, thus freeing my armored fist. After seeing his deployment I massed my Panthers on the leftmost border to duel his SU-100 at long range, backed up with a timely smoke bombardment to thin any return fire. Carlos conducted his Immediate Ambush, and 10 T-34 popped up in the middle of the small village, seriously threatening my Trained Panzer IV Platoon.
